History books called them the "Hell Hawks", the USAAF called them as the 365th Fighter Group, the Germans called them a terror. This campaign is inspired by the exploits of the 365th Fighter Group (388th Fighter Squadron) over Europe in the Autumn/Winter of 1944-45. This campaign requires IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Kuban. In spring 1943, the tide of the air war is slowly turning against the Luftwaffe, are you up to the challenge? Can you halt the Soviet advance? Your opponents are mountainous terrain, strong anti-aircraft fire and numerous Soviet, American and British-made fighters. Your objective is to attack artillery batteries, vehicle convoys, armored columns, airfields and battle formations of the advancing enemy. Staffel of the German ground attack unit II./Sch.G 1 and you will fly a modified attack variant of the newest Fw 190 A-5 fighter plane. You've just been appointed flight commander in 5. One of the largest and fiercest air battles on the Eastern front is ready to explode.
Both sides prepare for upcoming operations and are rapidly increasing the number or aircraft they can put into action over the Kuban. The German 17th Army holds the Kuban bridgehead firmly, repelling all Soviet troops attacks. It also made for an interesting carrier landing, as I could barely see the deck.Spring 1943, the final stage of the Battle for the Caucasus. I was still able to score another kill using the bullet hole as an aiming reticle. #4 kept refusing to comply, and at one point I got shot right through my gunsight. On my first mission in an F-4, I was able to request cover from my squad, which worked out pretty well for the most part. Starting at the highest rank seemed to do the trick. What rank do you start your careers? Have you noticed how it affects the campaign? highest rank makes your squad follow you and you can tell them to do anything you want, and idk what the lower ranks really do What rank do you start your careers? Have you noticed how it affects the campaign? i start at the highest rank.
The manual wasn't too clear about what effect rank has, but I think it limits the commands available. I've been starting my careers at the lowest rank because it seemed like I got more friendly support. I'll try experimenting with the wingman commands more. (use can use tab to give orders)Īlso US's planes are much worse than japan's for the earlier parts, then they get more equal in the later parts. my best plan for this mission was waiting till the bombers got attacked, then sending my wingmen to attack the enemies, and i stayed high to try and take out any enemy that went behind my wingmen. I think you really have to make a strategy to have a chance. i managed to survive until there were only 3 enemies left and i was far enough away from them that i could have escaped, but i got greedy and got shot down. Originally posted by an lol moo:its the same for me with japan campaign, im stuck on a mission where its basically me and 2 other fighters escorting 6 bombers, and the bombers go so low that they all get shot down instantly, and theres like 20-30 enemy fighters. I'd really like to see what these campaigns have to offer.
Do I have to download a more manageable campaign? I did a few searches and didn't find anything pertinent, though to be fair, I didn't look at ALL of the discussions.Īny advice would be appreciated, even if it's just, "get better". Is this a known issue with the stock campaigns or am I doing something wrong? I don't seem to have these issues when doing single missions. In the F-6, I'll hit my ground targets, only to be immediately shot as soon as I start to pull away. It seems that no matter which part of the enemy formation I go after, I get the same result. If I break off and try to attack a straggler, there's a fighter on my six. If I stay with my flight, there's a fighter on my six. In the F-4, I'll encounter an enemy force at least 2x that of my own.
In an SBD loaded with a heavy bomb and no escorts, I get attacked by fighters that I seem to have no chance of out-manuvering. I've been mostly trying USN careers so far, with most of the realism settings turned on (I allow external views and icons for example) Every time I start a career/dynamic campaign, I seem to get put into seemingly impossible situations and get shot down every time. I've gotten to the point where I can hold my own in large scale quick missions, and some single missions, consistantly getting kills until I run out of ammo.
